SSHRC Storyteller Galen Watts presents at 2018 Impact Awards

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) honoured the winners of the 2018 SSHRC Storyteller Contest at the 2018 SSHRC Impact Awards ceremony in Ottawa, on October 5. The contest which recognizes 5 postsecondary student for their research in social sciences and humanities, required students to demonstrate—in three minutes or 300 words—how SSHRC-funded research is making a difference in the lives of Canadians.

Galen Watts, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Cultural Studies, at Queen’s University, presented his winning 3-minute talk on “The Spirit of Millennials: Community and Citizenship in Canadian Life.” Attendees included the Governor General of Canada, her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, as well as SSHRC president, Ted Hewitt.
