Rescue and restoration of mural by Canadian artist Kenneth Hensley Holmden

mural restorationIn the spring of 2015, I initiated and managed the rescue, and restoration, of a 3.4-by-1.8-metre oil on canvas mural from a former bus terminal in Kingston, Ontario. The art piece, painted by Canadian artist Kenneth Hensley Holmden (1893-1963), is based on an original work by William Henry Bartlett (1809-1963) entitled, Fish Market, Toronto. The mural was painted with a maroflage technique, and was generously donated to the Masters of Art Conservation program, at Queen’s University, by the Springer Group of Companies. This project presented a valuable learning resource, and an exciting opportunity for the students in the program to undertake the recovery and conservation of a local painting. (Read More)
